CMOS

Pick up where the work left off.

Every new agent session starts cold. CMOS hands it the project’s missions, decisions and the reasoning behind them in one call, from a SQLite database in your repository.

Free on npm · v3.2.0

The reasoning is what gets lost.

A diff shows what changed. It doesn’t show what was tried first, what was decided and why, or what’s still open. That’s what the next session needs, whether the next session is an agent or a person.

How it works

  1. Plan the work as missions.

Each mission has an objective, success criteria and deliverables. Starting, completing, blocking or deferring one is recorded, and starting one surfaces relevant past decisions.

  2. Capture as you go.

Record decisions, learnings, constraints and next steps during the session, where they happen.

  3. Open the next session with one call.

cmos_review returns a digest under 4 KB: the project, the current sprint, the work queue, recent decisions and the next actions.

Local first. The dashboard is optional.

The core loop runs with no network connection, and everything lives in your project’s SQLite database. An optional account at cmos.aquex.ai mirrors it to a hosted copy, at checkpoints rather than continuously, and gives your projects addresses so they can message each other.

We build this site with it.

Every mission, decision and learning behind aquex.ai lives in CMOS, including the ones behind this page.

Two ways to start

Run it yourself.

CMOS is free to install from npm and needs Node 20+. Follow the guide to set up a project and open your first session.

CMOS keeps what your team and your agents write down. It can’t tell you whether a decision was right, and it doesn’t snapshot the database before destructive operations on its own, so back it up like anything else you’d hate to lose.
